We use a service called Zoom to connect distant participants with our meetings and some classes. When we set up your Zoom meeting, we will send you an invitation that includes a link to your meeting. You can download and install the Zoom application to your computer, mobile phone or tablet.
For you to interact with colleagues, you will need a headset with microphone and a webcam. The earbuds that came with your mobile phone are fine for the headset. If you need to get a headset, the iMicro IM320 USB Headset is available from Amazon. If your computer doesn’t have a webcam, there are inexpensive options available from Amazon for Windows and for Mac.
On the day of the meeting try and connect about 5 minutes before the start time so that we can make sure everything is working optimally and can begin on time. Find a quiet spot and avoid having either a brightly lit window or moving ceiling fan behind you. You will want to kick the kids (or significant other) off NetFlix or other streaming services for the duration of the call.
Check your internet speed at https://speedtest.net and if it is less than 2MB/s up and down, you might need to find a library or other spot with a faster connection. Avoid coffeehouses as they are way too loud for you to be able to participate and often have slow connections.
